Physician (OB/GYN)

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
The OB/GYN Physician provides for clinical services including direct care to patients. The OB/GYN Physician performs practice duties in accordance with applicable federal and state statutes and regulations, Medical Staff Bylaws/Rules and Regulations, and HRMC policies and procedures.  Responsible to appropriate Medical Staff Committee(s) and MEC regarding clinical requirements and reports to Vice President-Finance regarding administrative responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A. M.D./D.O. licensed to practice medicine in the State of South Dakota, and having current State and Federal Narcotics licensure.
B. ACLS Certified.  Board certified in specialty within 2 years of residency completion.
C. Active member of HRMC Medical Staff.
D. Constantly requires a high degree of social sensitivity and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with clients, groups of clients, and health care personnel within and outside the organization. Proceeds on own initiative and exercises independent judgment.  Demonstrates leadership abilities; possesses good oral and written communication skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
A. Requires frequent walking, standing, sitting, bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, feeling, talking, hearing and moderate lifting (exerting/lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly) of clients and equipment.
B. Risks exposure to communicable or infectious disease and injury from performance of assigned duties.
C. Subject to inside environmental conditions (protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature change) and to atmospheric conditions (one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin:  fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases or poor ventilation).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Clinical Activities
A. Provides quality medical care rendered to patients by:
1. Meets quality standards as reported by Medical Staff QA reviews and audits.
2. Practices within Medical Staff approved privileges as evidenced by no Medical Staff adverse actions.
B. Conducts professional services in accordance and compliance with any and all applicable laws, regulations, ethical, professional and licensure standards, and all applicable standards established from time to time by third-party payors. (EA)
C. Fulfills all duties required by and remaining subject to and abiding by the Bylaws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and practices of HRMC and HRMC’s medical staff at all times. (EA)
D. Complies with all employee policies and procedures and cooperates with HRMC in establishing and abiding by work schedules. (EA)
E. Documents medical care provided in accordance with HRMC policy and Medical Staff Bylaws/Rules and Regulations by:
1. Maintaining appropriate medical records and charts for all patients, (EA)
2. Maintaining 90% completion of clinic medical records within 48 hours from time of service and 100% completion within 15 days of service. (EA)
3. Using hospital and clinic Electronic Medical Records system for Physician’s  records. (EA)
F. Attends medical staff and medical staff committee meetings according to requirements contained in Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations.  (EA)
G. Accepts patients regardless of payment source and agrees to treat Medicaid and Medicare patients and take all actions necessary to participate in all insurance plans and healthcare plans as directed by HRMC. (EA)
H. Provides continuous care for patients or arranging for care during absence. (EA)
I. Assists other staff willingly. *(PP)
2. Administrative Activities
A. Continues to be an Active Staff medical staff member of HRMC. (EA)
B. Works with and through the Administration and other physicians to:
1. Integrate services into the organization’s primary functions
2. Coordinate and integrates interdepartmental and intradepartmental services
3. Develop and implement policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services of the clinic
4. Recommends sufficient numbers of qualified and competent persons to provide care and treatment
5. Determines qualifications and competence of clinic personnel who provide services and who are not licensed independent practitioners
6. Continually assesses and improves performance of care and services provided
7. Participate in quality control programs
8. Recommends space and other resources needed by the clinic
9. Participates in the selection of sources for needed services not provided by the clinic. (MS)
C. Recommends to the medical staff the criteria for clinical responsibilities if needed. (MS)
D. Recommends clinical privileges for clinic staff as appropriate. (MS)
E. Provides appropriate on-site medical supervision and direction in conjunction with other physicians to all non-physician personnel in the clinic. (EA)
F. Organizes time effectively to meet clinic and hospital needs. (PP)
G. Consults in the determination and selection of equipment reasonably required for the operation of the clinic and assists in inspection and evaluation of all equipment to assure it is maintained in a usable condition.
H.     Immediately forwards and assigns all payments for professional services received by Physician to HRMC through Contractor. (EA)

3. Personal Activities
Adjusts personal schedule to clinic and hospital needs as necessary to complete workload. (PP)
Maintains absolute confidentiality of information in accordance with hospital’s policies and procedures. (PP)
Presents professional appearance and demeanor. (PP)
4. Communication Activities
Refers problems to and seeks assistance from proper authority.  (PP)
Communicates with and maintains effective working relationships with physicians to develop support for departmental programs. (PP)
5. Safety Activities
Keeps self currently knowledgeable of hospital safety rules and procedures and instruction for personal safety in practices proper safety techniques in accord with hospital and departmental safety policies and procedures and state/federal regulations. (PP)
Consistently follows infection control and universal precaution procedures as applicable to the work at hand. (PP)
Keeps work area in good order and free of obstacles. (PP)
Immediately reports and appropriately documents all hazardous conditions, equipment malfunctions, and user errors affecting safety of self or others. (PP)
6. Customer Activities
Demonstrates understanding that patients, visitors, physicians and often other hospital staff are customers. (PP)
Demonstrates understanding of customer relations and managing the moment of truth. (PP)
